Beach Garden

Lovely family property at the end of Bainbridge Island was ready for a redo.  Lots of summer activity including boating, grilling, pizza making and firepit sitting made this a wonderful destination for a large group of family and friends.  The bank above the bulkhead was uneven, hard to maintain and full of weeds and rough grass.  Adding to a ledgestone wall that started at one end but never was finished was the first priority.  Clearing out the weeds while keeping the native elymus grass was next.  Large groups of grasses and california poppies were saved while the new random rock wall was installed.  Using big boulders helped hold the soil and created planting pockets for a variety of beach loving plants.   Salvias, grasses, ice plants, succulents were all planted strategically to minimize erosion with good root systems and matting growth patterns.  The final element to the wall was to add a row of river rock to the top of the ledgestone wall.  This also helps to block erosion and give a clean edge to the random rock wall.

A new paver pathway along the bulkhead leads to the firepit with log storage, tables for eating al fresco, a pizza oven with herb planters on either side and boat launching stations.  Pea gravel covers the bulkhead and the new stone paver pathway makes it easy to walk to the different areas of the space. The plant pallet of blue and gray dominate the planting with pops of orange and dark purple that the client loves.   The colors in the sky, water, and rocks all blend together with the planting to create this peaceful, natural landscape.
